Candy apples are a delightful treat, and using fresh Georgia apples makes them even more delicious.

Here's a classic candy apple recipe along with a few creative variations:

Classic Candy Apples

Ingredients

6-8 medium-sized Georgia apples (preferably tart varieties like Granny Smith)
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup water
1 teaspoon red food coloring (adjust for desired color)
1 teaspoon flavored extract (optional, such as vanilla or cinnamon)
Wooden sticks or skewers

Instructions

Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove any wax by dipping them briefly in boiling water. Insert wooden sticks or skewers into the stem end of each apple.

In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Once dissolved, insert a candy thermometer and cook without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).

Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the red food coloring and flavored extract (if desired). Be cautious as it will sizzle. Mix until well combined.

Carefully dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, coating it evenly. Allow excess candy coating to drip off back into the saucepan.

Place the coated apples onto a parchment-lined baking sheet or greased surface to cool and harden. Work quickly before the candy coating sets.

Let the candy apples cool completely before serving. Once they've hardened, they're ready to enjoy!

Variations

Caramel Candy Apples:

Substitute the red candy coating with caramel for a rich, indulgent treat. After dipping in caramel, consider rolling them in chopped nuts or drizzling with melted chocolate.

Chocolate-Dipped Candy Apples:
